Success Story: Lock Component

02/10/26

EZAC™ was the material of choice for this lock component for a manufacturer of commercial grade locks, door closers and exit devices. The customer focuses on quality and longevity of its products, and turned to Miniature Casting Corporation to improve the performance of this particular die casting. MCC reviewed the part and the casting material and proposed a thorough redesign of the casting. A bridge was added for strength, that was not present in the original design, and the side walls beneath the bridge were thickened. Ultimately, the redesigned piece showed improvements in the ease of assembly, showed weight reduction of the part, and was strengthened considerably, using EZAC™, a new high performance zinc alloy from Eastern Alloys. The test-to-failure reliability showed an average of 9,000 cycles with the original part, and was increased to nearly 40,000 cycles with the newly designed and manufactured EZAC™ lock component.
