Success Story: Electric Component – Jam Nut

02/10/26

Miniature Casting Corporation created a component part for an infrared window at its manufacturing facility in Cranston, Rhode Island for a manufacturer of electrical testing equipment. Infrared windows offer the ultimate protection for electricians, engineers and inspectors, as 99.9% of all arc flash incidents occur when the panel door is opened.

The customer engaged Miniature Casting Corporation to help design and manufacture jam nuts in three sizes, which were required to be tapped, conductive (electroless nickel plating), withstand vibration testing and the extreme pressure of an arc flash explosion. The parts had to pass 30 cycles of explosion tests that simulated 3 sticks of dynamite. These parts are made with EZAC™, a new high performance Zinc alloy from Eastern Alloys.
